Diary 21
December 2009
Despite difficult economic times,
the shops certainly seemed pretty busy when I was doing my
Christmas shopping.
But when money’s tight, it’s even more important to be confident
that you’re getting a good deal. That’s why I was pleased to meet
Kevin Brennan, the Consumer Minister to discuss shoppers’ rights
last week.
Just being aware
of three key points will stand shoppers in good stead. Goods must fit the description
given, be of satisfactory quality and be suitable for
purpose. And if you
need more help or information, you can contact Consumer Direct on
08454 040506 or visit the website www.consumerdirect.gov.uk for
further information.
The deal that
was finally thrashed out in Copenhagen last week is a step in the
right direction to prevent further catastrophic climate
change. But as
individuals we can also do our own little bit – not only to save
the planet, but to save on our fuel bills as well. That’s why I invited Jo Barnes
from Act on Energy to Redditch to talk to people about tips for
saving energy and money. He had some real common sense
ideas that I’ve put up on to my website. Why not take a look at
www.jacquismithmp.co.uk.
Last Friday, I
visited Bentley Close to talk to people who live in the sheltered
scheme. They were all
in good spirits and I was able to check that they’d all had their
winter fuel payments.
If you’re over 60, you should have had yours by now. If there’s any problem, please
get in touch with me.
Finally I’d like
to wish all the Advertisers’ readers a very happy Christmas and a
peaceful and prosperous New Year.
