Audit Commission report proves that Tory Worcestershire lets Redditch down

Audit Commission report proves that Tory Worcestershire lets Redditch down!

A new report published by the Audit Commission has a ‘red flag’ for the performance of local partners like Redditch and Worcestershire Councils in promoting the quality of life in Redditch.

Jacqui Smith has today written to Conservative Leader of Worcestershire County Council repeating the call for Redditch to get its fair share of resources and to ask why Redditch was not a priority for Government money coming to Worcestershire for jobs, child poverty and anti social behaviour.  (See link below)

Jacqui has also offered to join the Worcestershire Partnership to focus their work on Redditch.  Commenting on the report, Jacqui said

‘We have long argued that Conservative Worcestershire County Council don’t give Redditch a fair crack of the whip.  This independent report supports our view!

Conservative Councillors in Redditch don’t seem to be able to get through to their colleagues in Worcester so I want to have a go!

I agree with the Audit Commission conclusion that ‘It is not necessarily a matter of providing more funds but more about using the money that is available to the Redditch area better.’

Given this conclusion, I would like to know how Worcestershire County Council will ensure that money made available by the Government over recent months will benefit Redditch.’
