Jacqui Smith MP visits HiJack
Music.
“It’s learning Jim – but not as we
know it!”
Jacqui Smith met
with Nigel Clark and Doug Armstrong of HiJack Music last Friday to
see how the pair help young people improve their musical
skills. Some of their
work is aimed at tackling bullying, cutting anti social behaviour
and helping young people avoid crime.
Jacqui met with
a group of youngsters as they rehearsed songs in the Millsbrough
House studios. She
heard how they used musical work to express themselves, extend
their learning and their social skills.
Jacqui
said
“HiJack Music are offering a good
service to young people who haven’t always got on very well in
school. They work
with local schools and others to offer extended learning
opportunities in an environment that looks nothing like a formal
school - but it is education non the
less.
I
hope that more local schools will look into how HiJack Music can
help them.”
