Jacqui Smith MP calls for County Council Permit Scheme for
Household Waste Sites to be scrapped
Jacqui Smith MP has challenged Worcestershire County Council to scrap the “residents permit scheme” for
access to the town’s household waste site. The scheme was brought in to prevent residents from outside the County using the
facilities.
Jacqui said:
“This scheme is a bureaucratic and inconvenient way of managing a situation that should be
solved through negotiations between County Councils. Why can’t a negotiation between neighbouring Counties take place to agree compensation for “cross border”
services?
The degree of compensation can easily be checked against regular surveys of service use. The Conservative run County Council should scrap this scheme and put the interests of users ahead of the interests of
bureaucrats. It would make the service better and save money. All they have to do is talk to their colleagues.”
