‘Come Clean with Redditch families’ 

Jacqui Smith issues challenge to Shadow Minister Maria Miller

Jacqui Smith MP has issued a challenge to Shadow Families Minister, Maria Miller MP who is due to visit a Redditch Sure Start Children’s Centre on Monday 8 February.  In a letter to Maria Miller, Jacqui asks her to be clear with staff and families who use Redditch Children’s Centres about proposed Tory Cuts to Sure Start.

In the letter, Jacqui welcomes the Shadow Minister’s visit saying that it will be a good opportunity for her to see Government investment supporting babies, children and their families.  But she goes on to refer to comments made by David Cameron and David Willetts about cuts to Sure Start under a future Conservative government.

Commenting on the visit, Jacqui said:

‘Redditch Mums have told me how much they appreciate their Children’s Centres, but they’re worried that access will be restricted by a Conservative government and staff have told me that they’re worried that Centres will close and they’ll lose their jobs. 

Maria Miller must come clean with the staff and the families about Tory plans.  A photo opportunity in a Centre under threat from her Party’s policies would be a hollow sham!’
